Fluoride is a mineral that helps reduce dental decay. Fluoride is present in fluoridated city water and also in toothpastes , mouthwashes and chewing gum. Certain foods such as seafood, fish, water, tea, gelatins , chicken , milk, breast milk , salt, green vegetables and potatoes contain small amounts of fluoride.
Topical applications of fluoride can be done at the dental appointment every 6 months. In patients with high incidence of decay, a special toothpaste with extra-fluoride can be prescribed.
