What are Night Guards?

A “night guard” is primarily given to patients to prevent Bruxism, grinding or clenching of your teeth. It is also prescribed in cases of bad bites, full mouth porcelain crowns, in treatment of temporo mandibular joint pains, severe headaches caused because of night grinding and gum problems relating to Bruxism.  Many patients are not aware of their grinding or clenching because they are asleep. However, signs such jaw pain in the morning, teeth fractures, headaches and severe wear on the teeth indicate that a person grinds his/her teeth at night.

When a patient grinds his  teeth at night only selective teeth meet causing jaw and tooth pain. A plastic guard is then necessary to protect the teeth from breaking and to avoid further damage to the teeth and joints.
